2011 – Videos, Photos & Websites

Can a digital database enhanced rural economies? … 1-18-11, phase one posted.

During December and January Anders began orchestrating a two phase web redesign.

The State of Jefferson is more than a political concept – it is a geographical reality. Northern California and Southern Oregon are far removed and under-served by their respective state capitols: Sacramento and Salem. Anders has spent a great deal of time in this diverse and abundant region, see tule-lake.com and moviefeats.com. The design concept that Anders brought to myoutdoorbuddy.com is a clean functional space where the region’s outdoor activities – events, businesses, natural resources, human observations and creative skills can be professionally showcased. Northern California – Southern Oregon, the State of Jefferson, is a world class outdoor destination. myoutdoorbuddy.com , a friend to all who love the outdoors since 2006, aims to promote and generate greater awareness for this majestic landscape.

Another Anders internet adventure has started … 1-16-11 to 3-4-11.

High resolution photographic panoramas … in progress

Sunflowers in Tulelake Ca. Photo by Anders Tomlinson

Sunflowers track the morning sun with Mt. shasta in the background.

For the past three months, every day, Anders has been going through his digital photos, folder by folder, of farmland and wildlife refuge along the Oregon-California Border. Each day, on average a couple of hours is devoted to selecting and post-producing 20 to 40 high resolution photo prints. At this point Anders is half way through his inventory of 180,000 Upper Klamath Basin images shot during 2003- 2008. These images are being internalized and will find their way subconsciously into Anders paintings. Visit the photo gallery at Moviefeats.com.

Everyone loved Mocha and Mocha loved everyone

Mocha on the farm in Tulelake. Photo by Anders Tomlinson

Mocha was a playful spirit that respected life and was respected by life.

Mocha passed away April 23, 2011. Anders took Mocha off the streets in 1999 at Mocha’s request. He brought her to the vet for a checkup – dental work and Anders was told he had an old cat, maybe 14 years, on his hands. Mocha never walked on an Anders painting, spent hours watching Anders on the floor working on his paintings and never interrupted his painting process. There is an energy from inner joy and wonder that goes into all of Anders’ work and during this recent period missing Mocha he didn’t have what it takes for him to paint. Almost everyone who comes in contact with an Anders painting, in person, remarks about the piece’s spirit. Anders returned to painting on May 6. Soon, he will edit a film of Mocha’s time with Anders. This is a heart-warming story about a semi-wild-domesticated cat enjoying people and wildlife. Caretaker: Simply Living, film by Anders Tomlinson, one of six Art Talk Talks Art video series.

Art as an answer for contemporary contradictions and diminishing expectations.

Music, vistas, ego reflections, iconic images, poetic confessions and thoughtful questions. Surrealistic footnotes dance across contemporary mind-fields littered with ageless dilemmas, perpetual assumptions, emerging conundrums and enigmatic contradictions…
Also includes selected KBCH RadioTV clips and a short film, Fish Creek Magic.

Detail from Tulelake Fire Sunrise looking East, 16 x 34 inches @ 300dpi.

In the month of July over 1,000 Tulelake farm and refuge images were selected, processed and archived. Everyday, on average, 30 to 40 images are converted from raw files to photoshop documents. The first use for these images will be several hd video clips of life in the Tule Lake Basin and Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. Next, Anders will look for a book publisher, there are over 10,000 images in the collection. A directory of photo contact sheets, each with 30 images, are arranged by subject for easy reference and editing. Photography compliments Anders painting. With both, it is all about the moment viewers and image share.

Low-water garden film project is in production… in progress

The Queen of the Night blooms only in the night for one day. Photo by Anders Tomlinson.

When the flower explodes open a sweet fragrance fills the night.

Production of digital stills for hi-res prints and video took a great part of the last three weeks of November. At this point 1400 processed still images are in the archives. Hours of video and audio recordings are being reviewed. This is a comprehensive, year-in-the-life study of all that visits and happens in this low-water garden. This is a sanctuary where Anders finds comfort and amazement. This is also a study of all the cats, more than ten – a statement on overpopulation, that visited the yard.
