President Theodore<br \/>\n Roosevelt reserved 81,619 acres of lakes and marshes along<br \/>\n the California-Oregon border on August 8, 1908 as a preserve<br \/>\n and breeding grounds for native birds. Here is the largest<br \/>\n wintering bald eagle concentration in the Lower 48 states.<br \/>\n August and September are peak months for viewing pelicans,<br \/>\n egrets, herons and grebes. An estimated one to two million<br \/>\n ducks and geese migrate through the basin each Fall and Spring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\" alt=\"2-pt-pixel-black-line\" width=\"600\" height=\"10\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg 600w, https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line-300x5.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/tule-lake-refuge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/tule-lake-refuge.jpg\" alt=\"tule-lake-refuge\" width=\"200\" height=\"159\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2502\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wildlife\/tule-lake-nwr\/\"<strong>Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nis located in the fertile and intensely farmed Tule Lake Basin<br \/>\n of northeastern California. It was established in 1928 by<br \/>\n President Calvin Coolidge as a,\u201cpreserve and breeding ground<br \/>\n for wild birds and animals.\u201d \u00a0This 39,116-acre refuge is mostly<br \/>\n open water and \u00a0crop land. \u00a0Approximately 17,000 acres are farmed.<br \/>\n The refuge is a significant staging area for migrating waterfowl<br \/>\n during spring and fall migrations.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\" alt=\"2-pt-pixel-black-line\" width=\"600\" height=\"10\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg 600w, https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line-300x5.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/clear-lake-icon-icon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/clear-lake-icon-icon.jpg\" alt=\"clear-lake-icon-icon\" width=\"200\" height=\"159\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2503\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wildlife\/clear-lake-nwr\/\"><strong>Clear Lake National Wildlife Refuge<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nExcept for limited waterfowl and pronghorn antelope<br \/>\n hunting during the regular California State seasons,<br \/>\n the refuge is closed to all public access to protect<br \/>\n fragile habitats and to reduce disturbance to wildlife.<br \/>\n Clear Lake Refuge, established in 1911, consists of<br \/>\n approximately 20,000 acres of open water surrounded by<br \/>\n over 26,000 acres of upland bunchgrass,low sagebrush,<br \/>\n and juniper habitat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\" alt=\"2-pt-pixel-black-line\" width=\"600\" height=\"10\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg 600w, https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line-300x5.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/upper-klamath-refuge-icon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/upper-klamath-refuge-icon.jpg\" alt=\"upper-klamath-refuge-icon\" width=\"200\" height=\"159\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2504\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wildlife\/refuge-complex\/upper-klamath-nwr\/\"><strong>Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nis located some 24 miles north of Klamath Falls, Oregon.<br \/>\n Crater Lake National Park lies approximately 20 miles north<br \/>\n of the refuge.  The refuge is on the northwestern side of<br \/>\n Upper Klamath Lake and comprises 14,966 acres of swamp and<br \/>\n open water. It was established in 1928. At an elevation of<br \/>\n slightly above 4,000 feet, it lies in the shadow of the<br \/>\n forested east base of of the Cascade Mountains and is<br \/>\n watered by mountain streams and deep, clear springs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg\" alt=\"2-pt-pixel-black-line\" width=\"600\" height=\"10\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line.jpg 600w, https:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2-pt-pixel-blacl-line-300x5.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/klmath-marsh-refuge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/klmath-marsh-refuge.jpg\" alt=\"klmath-marsh-refuge\" width=\"200\" height=\"159\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2505\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/anderstomlinson.com\/tule-lake\/\/wildlife\/refuge-complex\/klamath-marsh-nwr\/\"><strong>Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nis located eighty some miles north of Tulelake. Crater Lake<br \/>\n National Park lies approximately 30 miles west of the refuge.<br \/>\n The refuge is largely surrounded by the Winema National<br \/>\n Forest.
