Paper Wishes

A new medium = new experiments + new consequences.

Paper Wishes is a series of 15 beginnings, a start for Anders painting on watercolor paper. Anders begins with the concept that white can be the paper as opposed to applied pigment. Another goal is not to fill the surface with pigment. A theme quickly surfaced, one species’ apocalypse is another species’ opportunity. This is another way to say catastrophe is mans’ concept.

The rest of this painting group have more applied pigment covering greater surface areas. The next step will be to apply large swaths of color and white. The question at hand is will the applications be on these uncoated surfaces or will Anders apply a work coat, photograph, sand and then apply additional paint? He has tested his finished coats on watercolor paper and the results are favorable. A work coat ensures colors will not become over-mixed and possibly muddy. The decision will be made in a couple of days with the conclusion of several compatibility tests. Anders decided to not apply a work coat and continue applying paint, carefully, to the original surface.
