Egg Man … 40″ x 35″
38 Art-Tars, moving and grooving in celebration of spirit and color, treat viewers with respect. The series goals was too move the eye across the surface like a cultural pre-electricity arcade game and have bright colors heighten the visual excitement. These are as close to Kandinsky that Anders will get. A nod to Miro, Tobey, and Chagall, and many others, is in order.
Spirits 01 … 40″ x 32″
Large swashes of custom made color, spun atop textured backgrounds, begin the visual dance. Point – counterpoint, balance – counterbalance and marks – unmarks drive movement and directions. These may be the most dramatic of Anders surfaces.
Function at the Junction … 40″ x 34″
Early Art Tars began in 1988. Studio stops along the way included Econdido, CA., Klamath Falls, OR., Tulelake CA., and San Diego, CA. The series was finished in 2009 except for a couple of large pieces that are currently on the work bench in progress.
Tar Thoughts … 46″ x 34″
Texture triumphs dancing across the surface with carefree abandon. Music has a role in the Art-Tars. There are rhythms and colorful notes scattered across a score. Foreground elements are solos against a dense compositional tapestry. Art-Tars = Fusion.
Escaping Trio … 45″ x 34″
Anders thinks of his vertical paintings as power totems. Art-Tars are more than decoration, they are constrained momentum unfolding into perpetual motion. Inspired by nature they invigorate and motivate, “lower your stress levels…”
Tar Profile … 36″ x 30″
Art Tar has a symmetry to it and Art Tars have an organic elementalism. Movement embraces form. Color drives motion. Shape hint and declare simultaneously.
Parade 01 … 36″ x 48″
Deep yellow, brillant blue, black, ochre, red iron, Naples yellow…
Texture, pourings, brush, splatter… Organization, reference points,
direction markers… all is one and one is all.
Blue Smile … 36″ x 32″
Defined and outlined features float above, maybe following, unknown currents ever upwards and away. There is nothing between us and the surface but our imaginations.
Tar Dance … 40″ x 30″
One and a two and a three and a… red three, blue three, black two, ivory four… the sum is greater than the parts… science and art. Understanding and believing. It is what it is.
Internal Cleaning … 45″ x 35″
There is more to the surface than meets the eye. Running a hand across the paint adds to the experience. These works are meant to be touched.
Tempest in a Teapot … 48″ x 30″
Imagine a room full of Art Tars, in handsome frames, staring back at you.
Can you see the music?
