Which is the Best Way to Travel – Mule or Camel?

09 – Fantasee 2:32

Created on Korg Trinity Plus.  Flute w/ delay acapella intro, add sparkly pad,
Rhythm section/song tempo starts featuring: Fender Rhodes type electric piano, Fretless electric bass (I used to own one of the first fretless electric basses ever produced.  I got it as a natural extension of having played string bass as my primary professional instrument)
And an acoustic drum kit.

Fantasee intro 0:34Flute- processed very wet*, with large hall reverb / extra long stereo delays.
There is also a SFX/MFX sound- a flanged cymbal mallet roll with motion and panning.  The shape of the envelope reminds me of of the sound of an ocean wave as it is swelling up to maximum and then rolls over the top and crashes.  It is a very effective transition sound or anchoring sound to mark the beginning / end / or transition from one section to another.
I designed it on the Roland JD 800.  It is one of my all-time favorites from my library.
Once again the ambient nature layer softens the electronic, artificially synthesized, digitalness of the music. I have no time or interest in participating in the long-running debate over the relative merits / liabilities of analog vs digital.
That’s like deciding which is the best way to travel- mule or camel?  I simply am ever vigilant sorting for ways to make the project work most effectively.  But digital or sequenced tracks almost always benefit from a bit of microphone-recorded audio.  Sound recorded from the real world implies the 3-dimensional space in which it occurred.  Even a little bit of that can really help  electronic tracks feel less artificial.
